The previous article introduced what is a rock slab. In this article, we will explain in detail how to pave the rock slab?
1. Basic process flow
Leveling and treatment of base course → elastic line positioning, plate cutting → adhesive preparation → adhesive construction → back coating of rock plate → check whether it is full of slurry → rock plate fixed on wall → vibration leveling → rock plate leveling → surface cleaning and protection → joint filling treatment
2. Special tool preparation
Including but not limited to: industrial-grade tile suction cups, large-size mobile brackets, lightweight plastic hammers (tile vibrators), guiding feet, steel screed knives, ash spoons (several), tile levelers, sponge caulking scrapers, Cleaning sponge, etc.
3. Detailed explanation of paving construction process
1) Grass-roots leveling and treatment
The horizontal infrared instrument shall check the flatness and verticality of the base course, plaster and level, polish and have a certain roughness, so as to ensure that the flatness of the base course can meet the installation requirements of the rock plate (with a 2-meter guiding rule, the allowable deviation of the wall surface is 2mm, and the allowable deviation of the ground flatness is 3mm)
2) spring line positioning, plate cutting
According to the rock plate grid scheme on the design drawing, set out on the base to ensure that the design size matches the actual size on site. According to the size of the elastic line, cut with a manual guide rail cutter and open holes with an electric cutter.
3) Adhesive preparation
The site is prepared according to the ratio of water, and after the evenly stirred adhesive is picked up by a batch ash knife, the adhesive will naturally fall from the batch ash knife in about 5 seconds, and the viscosity of the adhesive is the most appropriate. (Adhesive operation time is 2 hours at room temperature is appropriate)
4) Adhesive construction
Apply the adhesive to the front pasting surface with the straight edge of the tooth-shaped spatula, comb the adhesive into full and uninterrupted serrated stripes in the vertical direction with the tooth-shaped spatula, and comb it again in the horizontal direction.

5) Back coating of rock slab
Use a tooth-shaped spatula to flatten the pasting surface of the rock plate and apply a layer of adhesive with a thickness of about 6-8mm to ensure the adhesion between the rock plate and the adhesive.
⑥ Check whether the slurry is full (the back of the rock plate is scraped with a toothed knife)
Scrape the groove with a toothed knife on the back of the rock plate to check whether it is full of slurry. The fullness of the adhesive must be ensured to avoid hollowing.
7) Rock slab fixed on the wall
Use a vacuum suction cup plate lifter to stick the cut and scraped rock plate on the wall surface, embed a leveler (one at an interval of 40-60cm) at the edge of the plate, check the verticality with an infrared locator, and use an electric rubber hammer or vibrator to squeeze the rock plate to ensure uniform thickness of the adhesive.
8) Vibration leveling
Use plastic rubber hammer, vibrator or plastic flat plate to pat down the rock plate and gently tap the surface of the rock plate to empty the air between the rock plate and the wall surface, so as to facilitate the filling of slurry between the rock plate and the base surface, ensure the adhesion degree and avoid the phenomenon of hollowing. The adjustable paving time is 30 minutes. The operation mode of vibrating paving is from bottom to top and from inside to outside to avoid local hollowing caused by adhesive sliding down.
9) Rock slab leveling (placing leveler and positioner)
According to the position of the leveler embedded when paving the rock slab, place the cross locator, use the push clamp to fix the insert, ensure that the adjacent rock slabs are kept on the same level, remove the excess adhesive spilled at the edge after laying, and keep the surface of the rock slab clean and beautiful.
10) Surface cleaning and protection
Clean up the residual and overflow adhesive with scraper and rag in time, clean the surface of rock slab and brick seam, and protect the edge and sharp corner of rock slab with corner protector.
11) Filling treatment
After the surface of the rock plate and the gap are cleaned, check whether there is dust and water at the gap. After confirming the cleaning, use the same color system of the rock plate to fill the gap, use a small spherical hammer to wipe off the excess joint, use a shovel blade to remove the excess joint, and finally use a cleaning sponge to clean the surface of the rock plate to complete the paving process of the rock plate.
Construction paving matters needing attention
1) Special binder for rock plate
Rock plate paving construction, the need to use professional binder, rather than the traditional cement, the use of binder requires a low shrinkage ratio, long opening time, strong bonding force. 2. The thickness of the adhesive is appropriate
The thickness of adhesive paving is 5-7mm, which is easy to fall off in the later period. It can be used together with adhesive.
3, the correct use of tools
Correctly use the tooth-shaped knife, distinguish between scraping wall and scraper, do not lift the rock plate by hand or use the suction cup of the non-pressure valve on the market, but use the vacuum suction cup plate lifter.
4. Base surface treatment
The base surface should be flat, clean, strong, no dust, no water, grease and other dirt and other loose objects.
The surface of old concrete and old plastering can be cleaned with industrial detergent or degreasing agent, then rinsed with high-pressure faucet, and the surface can be dried for 24h before operation.
5. New concrete and plastering base surface
The new concrete shall be cured for at least 28 days before the slabs are laid and the newly plastered surface shall be cured for at least 7 days before the slabs are laid. (Pay attention to remove the residue on the concrete surface, especially the residual release agent on the concrete slab)
6. Substrates Treatment
In the water absorption of the substrate or in high temperature, dry environment, before construction should be wet to the outside of the base surface dry wet state; for the substrate loose and strong water absorption, or surface dust is difficult to thoroughly clean the surface, can do interface treatment.

What should be paid attention to when selecting rock plate?
At present, the rock plate market is mixed with good and evil people. Many material manufacturers and suppliers use shoddy products as good ones. Even many big-name ceramic tile brands use ceramic plates as rock plates.
How to effectively identify the quality of the rock plate?
Identification method:
Smell: high quality rock plate without stimulating chemical smell;
Touch: the bright rock plate feels smooth to the touch, without graininess; the dumb rock plate feels delicate to the touch, without frustration;
Touch: knock the rock plate with the key, the sound is clear and crisp;
Scratch: rock plate Mohs hardness 6-7, with a sharp device scratch, the surface will not have any traces;
Burn: put the sample in the fire, will not burn, burst, no odor gas;
Check whether there are relevant quality inspection reports and environmental protection documents.
High quality rock slab:
① for the whole body material, the color of the glaze and embryo body consistent;
2 high hardness, with a hard object to scratch the surface of the product will not exist scratches;
The processing performance is good, in the rock drilling, cutting will not appear cracking phenomenon;
The water absorption rate is low, the water absorption rate is usually lower than 1%;
Poor quality:
① Non-body material, glaze and embryo color is not the same;
②The hardness is low, and there will be scratches on the surface of the product with a hard object;
The processing is relatively poor, easy to crack during deep processing;
The water absorption rate is high, the water absorption rate is generally not less than 3%;
