Material Estimation and Tool Preparation

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description
(1) Material estimationMaterial usage: approximately 1.4-1.7 square meters per bag, depending on the tile size of the base surface.

(2) Tool preparation

Testing tools: hollow drum hammer, laser, level, tape measure
Proportioning tools: electric mixer, mixing bucket, measuring cup
Construction tools: toothed trowel, rubber mallet, tile vibrator, cross positioning card, leveling device (base, wedge, clamping pliers), brick support, diamond file, cloth, putty knife, putty knife, scraper, plumb line, ink cartridge, suction cup, tile cutter

Primary Assessment and Management

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description

(1) Basal hollowing

Inspection method: Use a hollow drum hammer to tap each construction base surface individually. Determine the scope of hollow drum by the sound's crispness or muffled resonance, and mark it accordingly.
Treatment method: If the base surface has hollow drumming issues, use an electric hammer to remove the hollow areas, then repair and smooth them with polymer mortar.
Unaddressed risks: If the hollow-out areas are left untreated, subsequent structural layers (plastering, waterproofing, tiling, putty, etc.) may develop issues such as peeling, hollow-out, or cracking after completion or commissioning.

(2) Loose foundation with dust and sand erosion

Inspection method: Wear gloves or use a putty knife to repeatedly scrape and rub the substrate. Assess the looseness of the substrate based on the degree of dusting and sanding.

process mode :

1) If dust or sanding is not noticeable at the base layer, first clean the surface with a broom, then apply the interface reinforcement agent.

2) When the base layer exhibits severe dust/sand accumulation and is loose, first use a cleaning spatula to remove surface debris until a solid base is achieved, then apply a reinforcement agent for interface consolidation.

Untreated risk: The reinforcement agent typically penetrates 2-3 mm, but the excessive thickness of floating dust prevents adequate penetration. If the loose substrate with severe dust and sanding is not addressed, subsequent structural layers (plastering, waterproofing, tiling, putty, etc.) are prone to issues such as hollow drumming and peeling.

(3) Oil stains and protrusions at the grassroots level

Method of examination: observation
Procedure: Use a cleaning spatula to remove protrusions, particles, and oil stains from the base layer.

Unprocessed risk:

1) If particles and protrusions are not addressed, the finished surface may exhibit issues such as unevenness and protrusions after interface reinforcement.

2) If oil stains or the original wall putty layer are left untreated, the reinforcement agent cannot penetrate effectively, which will compromise the interface reinforcement performance.

(4) Surface flatness inspection at the grassroots level

Inspection method: Use a horizontal ruler to check the flatness and verticality of the base layer, with a deviation of 3mm within 2m using the ruler.

process mode :

1) Perform reinforcement bar placement at designated points on the base layer for tiling

2) Apply leveling mortar for partial or full surface leveling

Note: For the grout placement technique, please refer to the "Tile Laying Construction Manual".

Unprocessed risk:

Uneven walls can affect the thickness of tile adhesive application. If the adhesive is too thick or too thin, tiles may fall off.

Note: The recommended tile adhesive thickness for 801 tiles is 5-10mm.

(5) Inspection of pipeline trenching locations

Inspection method: Check whether the pipeline groove is properly filled and whether there are any issues of poor bonding.

process mode :

1) Remove the sections of the pipeline where the groove is poorly bonded and delaminated.

2) Use polymer cement mortar to seal and compact the areas with inadequate filling or poor bonding.

Unprocessed risk: Must be processed

Material Proportion

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description
(1) Operation Steps1) Add water to an empty bucket according to the manufacturer's recommended ratio (approximately 4:1), then gradually incorporate the powder.
2) Stir with an electric mixer for 2–3 minutes, let stand for 3–5 minutes, then stir again for 1–2 minutes.

(2) Notes

Note:

1) Add water before powder to ensure even mixing of the tile adhesive at the bucket bottom.

2) The prepared slurry must be used within 2 hours.

3) Once the mortar has solidified, it must not be re-mixed with water.

Applying tile adhesive to walls or floors

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description

(1) Operation Steps

1) First, select an appropriate toothed trowel to apply a thin layer of prepared tile adhesive to the substrate, with the mortar thickness being less than 1mm.
2) Apply a thick layer of tile adhesive to the base layer using a toothed trowel at a 45-60° angle, ensuring the surface is fully and evenly coated. Each application should not exceed 1m².

(2) Notes

1) The scraper surface forms a 45-60° angle with the wall.
2) During combing, apply sufficient pressure to ensure the scraper teeth reach the wall surface, resulting in uniformly high and full lines.

Apply tile adhesive to the back of tiles

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description

(1) Operation Steps

1) Use a damp cloth to remove the release agent from the back of the tiles.
2) Apply tile adhesive to the back of the tiles using a toothed trowel at a 45-60° angle to the surface. Then, smooth the adhesive into a uniform strip parallel to the base surface's grooves.

(2) Notes

1) Failure to remove the release agent may cause brick detachment.

2) For tiles larger than 300×300mm, grooves must be cut on the reverse side.

For tiles measuring ≤300×300mm, apply a thin 2mm adhesive layer on the reverse side.

Tile Laying

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description
(1) Operation StepsAlign the tiles with their backs facing the groove, ensuring they are offset from the wall's groove marks. Lay them parallel to the groove, then press firmly to expel air and achieve full adhesion.

(2) Notes

1) During the adjustment period of tile adhesive (20-30 minutes), the position and joints of tiles may be adjusted; if the allowable adjustment time is exceeded, moving the tiles is strictly prohibited.
2) The thickness of 801 tile adhesive is approximately 5-10mm.
3) For tiles larger than 300×300 mm, electric vibrators may be used for compaction instead of manual kneading.

nstallation/Removal of Leveling Device

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description

(1) Operation Steps

1) Install the leveling base: Position the base approximately 10-15cm from the tile edges.
2) Inserting wedges: Embed wedges at the base of the leveler
3) Fixing and Leveling: Secure the leveling wedge with a clamping tool and level the tile surface.
 4) Levelness inspection: Use a level gauge to check whether the tiles are laid flat.
5) Remove the leveling device: Use a rubber hammer to remove the leveling device and inspect the tile joints for any remaining tile adhesive.

(2) Notes

1) If the tiles are uneven, pry them apart and re-lay them.
2) When tile specifications or geometric shapes differ, make real-time cutting or trimming adjustments during installation to ensure uniform gap width.
3) When removing the leveling device, the striking direction must align with the brick joint orientation.
4) The leveling wedge can be reused

 Cleaning/Acceptance/Maintenance

Key points of constructionConstruction detail description
(1) Detection of hollow drum and cracks

The decorative tile project constructed with full-lay method shall be free from hollow drumming and cracks.

Examination method: Observation; gentle percussion with a small hammer

(2) Surface Inspection of Laying

The types, specifications, patterns, colors, and performance of facing tiles must meet the design requirements.

Inspection method: Observation; Review of product qualification certificates, on-site acceptance records, performance test reports, and retest reports

(3) Detail Position Detection

The facing bricks around protruding wall elements should be cut and fitted as whole tiles with neat edges. The thickness of wall skirts and face-mounted protrusions extending beyond the wall surface should be uniform.

Examination methods: observation; measurement
